Cavachon Puppy Tricolor Boy So Smart | Sporty & Fun | 14 Pounds Grown

So people are always asking how I come up with the admittedly unusual names I give my puppies. Here's just a glimpse into the method and inspiration I use.

Did anyone see the movie The Man Who Invented Christmas? I totally loved it; I've watched it several times, and highly recommend it even though it’s months till Christmas. It's about the author Charles Dickens, and though, of course, he didn't invent Christmas, it weaves a delightful tale around his classic book, A Christmas Carol.

I loved so many of the scenes that showed the behind-the-scenes of an author and writer. The staring at the blank page, willing the words to appear, then being captured with an idea and a storyline that literally runs away with you. One of my favorite scenes was when he meets this gnarly waiter in an English Club who introduces himself as Marley. Dickens frantically seizes a tiny notebook from his pocket and asks the bewildered waiter for the spelling. His agent apologetically explains, “He collects names,” and I realize that’s exactly the method I use.

I love words, and I love naming puppies—funny names, whimsical names, beautiful names—each puppy needs his or her special moniker to help share his or her heart with all the Puppy Seekers out there. Uninspired to have a theme, this one is decidedly patriotic. But funny characters make their way in, like Homer Barnwell, a character from an old black-and-white movie that I loved.

Lincoln, on the other hand, can you believe it? I actually think he looks just a little bit like Abraham Lincoln. I think it's those whiskers and that gnarly little beard. And a certain gravity and stateliness in his manner. He's such a charming puppy with the old soul character that I love.

Don't worry; he's also a fun-loving kind of guy and can canter around with the best of them; at other times, he makes such an earnest attempt to look right in your eyes and figure out what will make you tell him what a good good boy he is. He is a dear, handsome as can be with his silky shiny furnishings,. A great candidate for anyone looking for a fun playmate for the kids or a buddy for your lonely doodle who spends a bit too much time on his own. An easy-peasy puppy in the making, don’t miss our good boy Lincoln!
